Dashboard Devices

With gas prices holding steady at well over $3.00/gallon, an economic recession that won’t let up and the ever-swelling carbon footprint that we are imposing on our planet - we are all looking for ways to cut back on our consumption of gasoline.  From driving less to carpooling, there are many different ways to achieve this.

Dashboard devices offer helpful tools to increase your fuel mileage by providing real-time fuel use data. This allows you to visually monitor how your driving style impacts your vehicle’s fuel economy, alter the overall performance of your car and even help you improve your driving habits.

There is a variety of different devices that will help you cut back on your gas consumption that are currently on the market. Some of these devices include smart phone apps and devices that keep track of your fuel economy in real time. They also alert you when engine maintenance is needed (down to parts and labor) to keep your car performing like the well oiled machine that it is.

Many of these devices and apps work through what is called the OBDII (On Board Diagnostics). Available on most cars since 1996, the OBDII connector is a port to your vehicle’s computer system. This gives you as a driver, real-time vehicle feedback, allowing you to tune certain engine components such as fuel injectors, ignition and transmission shift charactarisitics. It also helps adjust your driving habits to increase fuel economy.

Smarter driving habits coupled with better fuel consumption makes for less CO2 emitted from your vehicle. This saves you money and our environment. Let us know how these devices have worked for you.
