The U.S. EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) only sanctions a minimum amount of detergent and other additives be used in our consumer gasoline. This means the quality of our gasoline can vary greatly from manufacturer to manufacturer. Using fuel additives to bring your old clunker back to life, or in an effort to maintain the performance of your spankin’ new sports car, can greatly increase the efficiency of your vehicle and help reduce emissions.
There are many different types of fuel additives that perform different tasks on your vehicle. One of the most popular types are those that increase power by rapidly and thoroughly removing engine deposits in the combustion chamber, intake manifolds, ports and valves. These additives restore flow in fuel injectors and clean the entire fuel system. Removing these deposits and increasing the flow of fuel to the engine decreases emissions, saving money and the environment at the same time.
Other products are meant to be added to the crankcase or oil, and use nanotechnology to help reduce friction. You see, every metal surface, no matter how smooth it appears, has microscopic peaks and valleys known as asperities. When two of these metal surfaces come in contact and these asperities grind against each other, wear and heat are produced. This can lead to a decrease in efficiency, and even mechanical failure. These nano-additives contain microscopic metallic particles that fill in those asperities, decreasing friction and allowing your engine to run smoother, cooler, and more efficient. Less friction. Better gas mileage.
There are also products that clean up your catalytic converter. A catalytic converter is a device in the exhaust system of an internal combustion engine vehicle that helps reduce noxious exhaust emissions. Can we all agree that is an important component of our vehicle? Good.
If you have tried any of these products and have some feedback, or know of any that we here at Earthgarage should know about, please contact us and let us know.
