Over the long term gas prices will continue to rise. Automobile manufacturers are starting to focus their attention on gas mileage. Finally.

If you're like most of us, you're probably hanging on to your car, SUV or truck a lot longer. Sure, it would be great to go out tomorrow and buy a Prius or one of the other hybrid cars available today.  Maybe you've got your eye on a Volt or Leaf.  Well, maybe not. The reality is you got a lot on your plate and you're just not quite ready to buy a new car right this moment.

We hear you.

In the meantime, what can you do right now to save on your next fill up? How can you pitch in to help the environment? Being green and being thrifty are not separate ideas. When you do good for the environment, you're saving money, too.

You see, there are a lot of small things you can do today that will increase gas mileage and reduce your carbon footprint. You can make a difference and save money at the same time.

We noticed there wasn't a central place to connect all the products and resources that are available right now. That's why we created Earthgarage.

We are building a place where you can find all the ideas, information and resources to help make your car greener and save money. We've searched and found products and resources that will help you start saving money right away on fuel and even on some ongoing maintenance costs. Step up and you'll be doing your part to reduce our dependency on foreign oil and help decrease the CO2 emissions that cause global warming. Not too bad?

It's about empowerment. We can't wait for electric cars to become more practical and affordable. Some day, yes. But it will take a while.  Hope the government steps up with a comprehensive energy plan. Dream on. Don't expect anything to get sorted out until the 2012 elections. Sorry.

It's up to us as individuals, as drivers, to take action.
