Automobile manufacturers are starting to focus their attention on gas mileage. Finally.

Yet, like many of us, you're probably hanging on to your car, SUV or truck a lot longer. Sure, it would be great to go out tomorrow and buy a Prius or one of the other hybrid cars available today.  Maybe you've got your eye on the Volt, Leaf or a Tesla.  Well, maybe not. The reality is you got a lot on your plate and you're just not quite ready to buy a new car right this moment.

In the meantime, what can you do right now to save on your next fill up? How can you pitch in to help the environment? Being green and being thrifty are not separate ideas. When you do good for the environment, you're saving money, too.

We noticed there wasn't a central place to connect all the products and resources that are available right now. That's why we created Earthgarage.

We are building a place where you can find all the ideas, information and resources to help make your car greener and save money. We've searched and found products and resources that will help you start saving money right away on gas and ongoing maintenance costs.

And we've just launched the Earthgarage Certified Dealer, an network of qualified repair shops where you can bring your car in for green servicing. We're also creating a green accreditation program for the shops, so you'll know they're doing everything they can to limit the impact on the environment when they take care of your car.

Step up and you'll be doing your part to reduce our dependency on foreign oil and help decrease the CO2 emissions that cause global warming. Not too bad?

It's about empowerment. We can't wait for electric cars to become more practical and affordable. Some day, yes. But it will take a while. It's up to us as individuals, as drivers, to take action.
